Makalidurga 1 Day Trek (trip captured with GoPro)

Makalidurga 1 Day Trek Outing

Members : Sumeet, Gaurav, Kempa, Sheela and Khusboo

Having heard enough about this place, I set my eyes on capturing this hill for my next trek adventure. A usual weekend , Saturday, comes up and I am set for this trek.

Its a cold morning and I am all set by 6 AM to start. I reach Sheela's place pick her up and Gaurav aka GK and Khusboo soon join us. We quickly reach Hebbal where Kempa is supposed met up. After bit of confusion and timepass, Kempa finally joins us.GK finally starts with Duke with a bang and sets the wheel on fire. In the rage of speed, he misses the route and straight ahead towards Bangalore Airport @ 130 KMPH. Somehow we manage to call Khusboo is GK's pillion and at such a high speed picks up the call. Some more confusion and we finally continue our ride on the right way.

Enroute, we break on the way for some hot idlis and rice bhaat for breakfast. This place is called Dodaballapur. Some GoPro shooting here from GK and we continue on our way.

Finally, after 20 more minutes of riding, we cross Makalidurga railway station and reach near the hill. We park the bikes under a tree and we look at the killer hill staring at us. We start the trek by crossing the railway tracks and trying to identify the correct route.

Soon, after 15 minutes of hike, we reach a tough patch with a huge rock and an ascend of almost 75%. Looking at this ascend itself sends shivers down my spine. Somehow all other 4 looks in great spirit and start hiking. I follow. There is barely any assistance available nearby in case we encounter a fall here. I manage to climb partially and get stuck at a place where I am unable to climb further. GK is not willing to come down as help as even he is somehow able to climb. But luckily for me, GK's bag slides down just near to me and gets stuck at a small tree. GK finally comes down to get his bag and me as well. After lot of effort, we manage to get out of there. However, I must say, the only thought that came to my mind during the time I was stuck was that - "I am not going to make this. Let me meanwhile enjoy the fantastic view around till then." But I got lucky. And luck has been with me during all my Bangalore treks.

We finally reach the peak and find the temple there. We spend some time in pure silence. After 15-20 minutes of rest, we plan to descend. As destiny would had it for us, we dont know whats ahead of us. On the way down, we are unable to find our way and GK at one of the descend tries to find a route which is way too risky. He suggests us that we go back and find other route. Soon, GK is on his own attempt and we are lost on our way to find the routine trail to go down. With sun on our heads and water bottles empty, we are unsure as how much time it will take for us to reach to the base of the hill. After 1 and half hour, we manage to reach the peak base and we find GK coming towards us with torn pants and some injuries. It is then that we come to know that he had fallen from one of the points and slipped down a good amount of height. However he had made sure that , since he reached the base early,we went on his bike and got couple of water bottles for us - the thirsty souls. Hats off to you GK for that.

After few minutes of rest, we start our bikes and head for the city. I miss on one of the routes and head straight to Chikballapur and I realise it only later. I somehow other folks to continue their journey towards Yelhanka. We finally meet at the common point at around 4:30 PM and Khusboo joins me on my bike for her drop. Bangalore rains are way too punctual. During monsoon times, it  starts every evening and make sure its done by 7:30 PM or so....funny and surprising though. We get caught in rain and the only thing that comes to our mind - Who would have thought that after such a sunny tiring trek in the noon , we would be caught amidst the rains. Being fully wet, Khusboo asks if garma garma wada paav is a good idea. Initially surprised though, I ask her if there is a good place for it in Bangalore and she takes me to a food outlet in HSR colony where all the chaat and north snacks are available with great variety. We enjoy the stuff and finally dropping her , I reach back home. As I think of the day and the trek, the greatest take-away  - if you are destined to survive, you will ! Thrill continues with every trek !!
